Slate also notes:
In contract, only 9% support a war against Syria.47 percent of Americans supported the U.S. intervention in Libya in 2011, which Talking Points Memo noted at the time was the “lowest level of support for an American military campaign in at least 30 years.” Seventy-six percent of American initially supported the Iraq War, and 90 percent supported U.S. action in Afghanistan in 2001.On the eve of NATO military action in Kosovo in 1999, Gallup described public support as “tepid” at 46 percent. By contrast, 81 percent of Americans thought that George H.W. Bush was “doing the right thing” prior to the beginning of Operation Restore Hope in Somalia. Fifty-three percent initially supported in the invasion of Grenada. Even at their worst points, support for the wars in Iraq and Vietnam hovered around 30 percent.
There was 500% more support for the Iraq war when it started than a war against Syria today.
And ABC News pointed out in 2011:
In 1945, at the height of the war and when public polling was in its infancy, the American Institute of Public Opinion found that 75 percent of respondents favored continuing to fight until the German army was “completely defeated,” even if Adolf Hitler offered to make peace ….
***
According to Gallup polls, nearly eight out of 10 Americans supported former President Harry Truman’s decision to send troops to Korea in 1950 shortly after World War II concluded.
Indeed, more Americans supported the King of England during the Revolutionary War than support a war against Syria today.

-CONFIRMED: US Claims Against Syria – There is no Evidence-
SvaraRaderaAugust 28, 2013
By Tony Cartalucci, BLN Contributing Writer
The Wall Street Journal has confirmed what many suspected, that the West’s so-called “evidence” of the latest alleged “chemical attacks” in Syria, pinned on the Syrian government, are fabrications spun up from the West’s own dubious intelligence agencies.
The Wall Street Journal reveals that the US is citing claims from Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency fed to the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), a repeat of the fabrications that led up to the Iraq War, the Libyan War, and have been used now for 3 years to justify continued support of extremists operating within and along Syria’s borders.
Wall Street Journal’s article, “U.S., Allies Prepare to Act as Syria Intelligence Mounts,” states:
One crucial piece of the emerging case came from Israeli spy services, which provided the Central Intelligence Agency with intelligence from inside an elite special Syrian unit that oversees Mr. Assad’s chemical weapons, Arab diplomats said. The intelligence, which the CIA was able to verify, showed that certain types of chemical weapons were moved in advance to the same Damascus suburbs where the attack allegedly took place a week ago, Arab diplomats said.
Both Mossad and the CIA are clearly compromised in terms of objectivity and legitimacy. Neither exists nor is expected to provide impartial evidence, but rather to facilitate by all means necessary the self-serving agendas, interests, and objectives of their respective governments.[...]

There is one war the American people are winning, and that’s the info war.
Government and the mainstream media have lost all credibility, leaving opportunity for the alternative media to swoop in and expose the truth, waking up viewers across the globe.
The continued unraveling of government scandals backed up by a clearly biased mainstream media narrative has Americans fed up and unwilling to consent to another war.
Nearly a month ago to the day, Infowars reported the “Department of Defense announced plans to increase its public affairs efforts due to the devastating effect independent media is having on the Pentagon’s ability to control its news, more specifically, its ability to quash negative news stories before they go viral.”[...]

--British MPs reject military intervention in Syria--
SvaraRaderaAugust 29
UK government motion on Syria intervention has been rejected by a 285 to 272 margin after British lawmakers rejected an opposition Labour amendment calling for more information about the deployment of chemical weapons in Syria.
The Labour amendment was defeated Thursday by 332 votes to 220, with a government majority of 112. “A number of Tories in the no lobby with Labour,” wrote Labour MP Jon Trickett.
British Prime Minister David Cameron has asserted that such action would put a halt to human rights atrocities in Syria, while Labour party MPs said they required more evidence of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s guilt to intervene in the Middle Eastern nation’s two-year civil war.
MPs on both side of the aisle expressed doubt over British involvement in Syria during a six hour debate in the House of Commons. Cameron called back lawmakers from their summer vacation to determine whether Britain would join US-led military action in Syria, if the US decides to do so in the coming days.
Cameron, while advocating for limited attacks against the Assad government, admitted he was not “100% certain” that Assad was behind a recent chemical attack, but that it was “highly likely”.
Cameron admitted it was clear the British Parliament did not want action and said he “will act accordingly.”
One MP shouted “resign” as Cameron pledged he would not order an attack.
The vote came just before US President Barack Obama was scheduled to meet with congressional lawmakers and other key leaders to brief them on possible military action in Syria. White House deputy spokesman Josh earnest told reporters Thursday that the US was prepared to “go it alone” in Syria to protect American “core national security interests.”
“The president of the United States is elected with the duty to protect the national security interests of America,” he said. “The decisions he makes about our foreign policy is with our national security interests front and center.”

Syria War Push Stalls in UK, France; Arab League Won't Endorse Armed Force; Ban Ki Moon of UN Wants More Time; Germany, Italy, Austria, Canada, Jordan Opt Out; Pope Calls for Dialogue; Russia Sends Warships; Opposition Grows in US -- Time To Mobilize!
The following is an approximate transcription of the interview.
Press TV: What we are hearing very recently just now is that President Barack Obama is saying that though the United States has still not decided that it is going to strike, it has 'concluded' that the Syrian government has used chemical weapons and that even if it doesn't have the UN mandate or the support of its allies, it is willing to strike.
And on the other hand, Iran and Russia are saying that would be in violation of international law. But what do you think has made the United States so adamant that it is saying that, even without the UN approval, it'is going to carry out the attack?
Tarpley: I think there was a moment of great fear in the State Department when they realized that they had no influence on what was happening in Egypt which they did not like and therefore they had a panic and they've decided now to try to take it out on Syria which has been one of their favorite things. I think, however, the real news is that this coalition is falling apart. There is a very significant backlash and pushback against this war. We have, for example, the member of the German government saying that no German armed forces will be involved in this adventure. The Italian government says none of their forces and none of their bases will be used for the adventure. Jordan, at least verbally, says that they will not allow their territory to be used for these attacks.
The Austrian government says there will be no overflights. They've denied the use of their airspace to NATO and they have also condemned the idea of action without the UN Security Council. We've also got that in France, Mr. Hollande is weak enough so that he has got to call his parliament back on the 4th of September. Now that's the Wednesday of next week.
So there is a significant delay which is coming. Now Secretary Kerry was on the phone with Ban Ki-moon of the United Nations trying to abolish and terminate the mission of the inspectors in Syria and Ban Ki-moon has rebuffed him and he told him no.
Press TV: The issue of chemical weapons, the UN's role in here, the United States' role in here. A lot of people are saying if the US has 'concluded' that the chemical weapons have been used by the Syrian government and it is sure about it, why isn't it giving it proof or evidence? Do you think that the US does not have that evidence?
Tarpley: The proof comes from the Israelis. The so-called intercepts of the Syrian military cable traffic is things made up by the Mossad and the IDF. The big problem for Obama right now is that the British government Cameron, his great friend, they have been blocked by the Labor Party.
They will not get their vote tomorrow; their vote also goes to next week and here inside the United States, I must say, the Republicans, Fox News as well as certain Leftists like Rachel Maddow on MSNBC, there is a backlash emerging there also against this war.
American people of course are horrified by this, sick of war, looking for a way out. So it looks to me like there is a very very broad and robust pattern of the world saying no to this act of senseless aggression and I think Obama is in an increasingly weak position. He can be stopped.

-Washington’s threats to attack Syria unacceptable – Russia-
SvaraRaderaAugust 30
Washington’s statements threatening to use military force against Syria unilaterally are unacceptable, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said in a statement.
Given the lack of evidence, any unilateral military action bypassing the UN Security Council – “no matter how limited it is” – would be a direct violation of international law and would undermine the prospects for a political and diplomatic solution to the conflict in Syria and will lead to a new round of confrontation and victims, Lukashevich concludes.
“Instead of executing the decisions of G8’s summit in Lough Erne and subsequent agreements to submit comprehensive report from experts investigating possible cases of use of chemical weapons in Syria to the UN Security Council, in the absence of any evidence, we hear threats of a strike on Syria,” the statement reads.
Lukashevich emphasizes that even “US allies” are calling to wait for the completion of the UN chemical expert group “in order to get an unbiased picture of what really happened and decide on further steps in terms of the Syrian crisis.” [...]

A foolish President Obama and moronic Secretary of State Kerry have handed the United States government its worst diplomatic defeat in history and destroyed the credibility of the Office of the President, the Department of State, and the entire executive branch. All are exposed as a collection of third-rate liars.
Intoxicated with hubris from past successful lies and deceptions used to destroy Iraq and Libya, Obama thought the US “superpower,” the “exceptional” and “indispensable” country, could pull it off again, this time in Syria.
But the rest of the world has learned to avoid Washington’s rush to war when there is no evidence. A foolish Obama was pushed far out on the limb by an incompetent and untrustworthy National Security Advisor, Susan Rice, and the pack of neoconservatives that support her, and the British Parliament cut the limb off.[...]

-The People Say No to War with Syria-
SvaraRaderaSheldon Richman | September 13, 2013
The Constitution did not keep President Obama from attacking Syria. The people did. Think about that.
Obama, his top advisers, and many of his partisans and opponents in Congress insist that the president of the United States has the constitutional authority to attack another country without a declaration of war or so-called “authorization for the use of military force” even if that country poses no threat whatever to the United States, the American people, or what are vaguely called “our interests.”
This seems wrong, especially in light of the 1973 War Powers Act. But Obama already asserted this alleged authority in Libya. Bill Clinton did it in Kosovo and Bosnia through NATO and the UN. George H.W. Bush did it in Panama. Ronald Reagan did it in Lebanon and Grenada. And so on back to Harry Truman in Korea. (I’m ignoring the many covert wars.)
Constitution, Shmonstitution. War Powers, Shmar Powers.
Nevertheless, Obama has not bombed Syria (yet). Two weeks ago he told us he had decided to do so, but then he decided to put the question to Congress. After Russia offered to help collect and destroy Syria’s chemical weapons and Bashar al-Assad agreed, Obama asked Congress to delay the vote.
What happened?
The people happened. Public-opinion polls showed at once that most of us do not want Obama to commit an act of war against Syria. [...]
