Police officer beats 4 year old, puts him in critical condition
McMinnville police arrested a reserve Yamhill police officer who investigators said assaulted and critically injured his girlfriend's 4-year-old son.
Michael Shane Abo, 34, was arrested Saturday morning. He faces charges of assault (first degree) and criminal mistreatment (first degree).
Police said Yamhill County sheriff's deputies responded to a medical call about an injured 4-year-old boy at Abo's home on Dec. 31.
Neighbors say they always thought something was off with Abo.
"If the little boy was in momma's car going to McMinnville, he would always blow a kiss at me when they left. But if he was in daddy's car, he was not allowed to look," said Ruby Swartz, Abo's neighbor.
Yamhill County Sheriff Jack Crabtree requested that McMinnville police investigate the incident because Abo is a reserve police officer and a former Yamhill County sheriff's deputy.
