Edward Snowden reportedly leans toward Venezuela for asylum, while RT speaks to Ecuador's foreign minister on the reasons behind Latin America's backing for whistleblowers on the run. Three Latin American states have offered asylum but Edward Snowden is has yet to pick which one he'll accept. Reports say he's leaning towards Venezuela, whose offer came in early on a wave of South American support. Speaking exclusively to RT, Ecuador's foreign minister explained the continent-wide backing for whistleblowers and why he believes it's necessary. RT's Marina Portnaya reports.

Bolivia's presidential jet was forced into landing in Vienna on Wednesday after several EU countries barred the plane from entering their airspace over suspicions that whistleblower Edward Snowden was potentially aboard. 
Austrian authorities searched Morales' plane for Snowden, but found no stowaways on board, Austria's deputy chancellor has said. 'An act of aggression and violation of international law' is how Bolivia's UN envoy described Austria's decision to search the Bolivian presidential jet for NSA leaker. 
Evo Morales finally flew out of Vienna after being detained for over 12 hours in the airport.

Stranded NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden finally has a place to go. Venezuela has decided to offer him asylum, and an escape from the legal limbo which has left him stranded in a Moscow airport since last month. Snowden is wanted in the US on espionage charges for leaking details of America's global spy programme.

Latin American leaders meet to discuss the "hijack" of Bolivian president Evo Morales' plane in Austria. Regional leaders presented a united front, defending Latin American sovereignty in the face of what they see as post-colonial imperialism.

International affairs analyst Pepe Escobar says such a turnover in Snowden chase could significantly increase NSA Whistleblower's chances on asylum in one of Latin America's countries.

Latin America rising: Outrage at 'imperial hijack' of Morales' plane

Latin American leaders are meeting to discuss the "hijack" of Bolivian president Evo Morales' plane in Austria. Regional leaders presented a united front, defending Latin American sovereignty in the face of what they see as post-colonial imperialism.

The Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) will hold an emergency meeting to discuss the EU air blockade that forced the Bolivian President Evo Morales to land in Austria on Wednesday. France, Spain, Portugal and Italy all closed their airspace amid suspicions the NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden had stowed away on board the president's craft.

- The 12 nations that are part of the regional block will have a ministerial meeting in the Peruvian capital of Lima to discuss the consequences.
