Tjurrusning i Pamplona

Tjurrusning i Pamplona

2012-07-07 RT

Six people
have been injured as thrill-seekers from all over the world gathered in Pamplona, Spain, for the annual bull-running festival. The dangerous and spectacular activity attracts thousands of tourists from all over the world every year.

One man has been gored in the leg, and five others slightly injured as crowds run along the streets of Pamplona chased by six fighting bulls.

Witnesses say one young man got the top of his shirt and scarf caught on a bull's horn, just inches from his face, and was dragged several meters along the street, but was seen getting up and running away.

Among those who asked for medical assistance were a 21-year-old person from Japan, a 26-year-old Australian national, and a local elderly man, who was hospitalized after a bull horned him.

The bulls used in this centuries-old fiesta can weigh over 500 kilograms.

Fifteen people have been killed by the ornery beasts since, 1924 when record-keeping began.

Aside from the dangers posed by the race, thousands of tourists come to Spain every July to test their mettle.

"Running with the bulls was the best experience I've had, so much adrenaline," Mark Martinez, a student from Los Angeles, California, said. "I couldn't touch the horns, I might try that tomorrow," he added.

The running of the bulls begins on July 7 and continues through July 14 every year as a part of the San Fermin festival. Early in the morning, crowds of runners dressed in white shirts and red scarfs run to the city's bull ring chased by the beasts.

San Fermin dates back to medieval era, but became popular worldwide only in the 1920s after Ernest Hemingway published his novel "The Sun Also Rises." It is about a group of American and British emigres traveling from Paris to the festival to watch the running of the bulls.

...Den här tjurrusande mannen ser inte speciellt lycklig ut, men när man uppför sig som en komplett idiot så blir ofta belöningen ett möte med sjukvården... :)
