- Iraqi death toll rises to 111

...in the worst wave of attacks this year

RT 2012-07-23A series of blasts and shootings in Iraq has brought the single-day death toll for brutal attacks in the country to 111 victims, including 16 Iraqi soldiers. With 268 wounded, the attacks signal the country's worst outbreak of violence in two years.

The deadliest series of the attacks occurred in Taji, a town not far from Baghdad, with at least 42 dead and 40 wounded, AFP reports, quoting local officials.

A string of roadside bombs went off, destroying a row of houses, Iraqi officials say.

This was followed by a car bomb blast and a suicide bombing targeting emergency workers who had arrived to the scene.

At least 15 soldiers were killed in a militant attack on a military base near the town of Dhuluiyah, security officials said.

In Baghdad, 12 people were killed after a car bomb went off next to a government office. Two other blasts in the capital’s neighborhoods killed four and left 27 wounded.

Eleven people were killed in checkpoint shootings and bomb explosions in the Diyala province. Nine consecutive bomb blasts in the northern Kikuk province killed seven and wounded 29.

A car bombing, a roadside blast and a shooting killed nine in the northern city of Mosul and the nearby town of Baaj.

A market explosion in the town of Diwaniyah, south of Baghdad, left three dead and wounded 10 others. One soldier was killed after a car loaded with explosives went off next to an army patrol in the western town of Heer.

Sowing sectarian strife

The coordinated attacks have mostly targeted Shia Muslims sites and locations, indicating a potential sectarian motive behind the freshest spat of violence.  Iraqi Al-Qaeda consists mostly of Sunni Muslim militants which regularly target a Shia-led government on friendly terms with neighboring Iran.

Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the self-appointed leader of the Iraqi branch of Al Qaeda, has announced a resurgence of terrorist activities in the country.

He said that al-Qaeda would embark on an operation called “Breaking the Walls,” which entailed missions to free imprisoned al-Qaeda members and a parallel push to reclaim territory they were previously forced to abandon.

He called for the support of tribal leaders to help the terrorist group in their fight to reoccupy key areas. An unnamed Iraqi official shared with Reuters that the attacks are intended to trigger a Shia-Sunni sectarian war in Iraq. “They want things to be as bad as in Syria,” he said.

Local officials have confirmed the deaths, but it is not yet clear who is behind the attacks. The death toll in the string of attacks is the highest of any single day since December 8, 2009, when 127 people were killed.

RT’s Gayane Chichakyan on the Iraqi terror acts from a Washington perspective.

"Al-Qaeda" sustains

US-created chaos in Iraq

RT 2012-07-23
Michael O’Brien, author of “America’s Failure in Iraq”, shared with RT that it was the American invasion of Iraq that totally destabilized the country, because there was a “very simplistic, very cavalier attitude of the Bush administration” towards the complicated interfaith relations in Iraq.

[Then you get] the tension between the Sunni and the Shia. Saddam [Hussein] was a Sunni, which is the minority of the population. Al-Qaeda, all they want to do in Iraq is: they kill Sunnis so that the Shias take the blame; they kill Shias, so that the Sunnis take the blame.

They really don’t care.

All they want to do is kill people and form unrest,” O’Brien said.

*Al Qaeda: The Proxy Army

of the US, NATO, and Israel...

2012-03-28 John Galt's Blog
Since the terror attacks of 9/11, the US government, whether under the control of a democratic or republican administration, has insisted on waging a “global war on terror”. The main target of this war is the terror organization known as Al-Qaeda.

The US, Israel, and other western powers argue that Al-Qaeda hates the freedom the people of these western nations enjoy, Because of their “hatred”, they are determined to destroy every last vestige of liberty; bombing embassies, attacking convoys, aiding dictators of rogue nations, and of course, flying planes into buildings.

The truth, however, is much stranger than fiction.

The US gave birth to Al qaeda by funding and training the mujahadeen, led by Osama Bin Laden, who fought the Russians to a stalemate in Afghanistan. According to the BBC:

The organisation grew out of the network of Arab volunteers who had gone to Afghanistan in the 1980s to fight under the banner of Islam against Soviet Communism.

During the anti-Soviet jihad Bin Laden and his fighters received American and Saudi funding.

Some analysts believe Bin Laden himself had security training from the CIA.

Immediately after 9/11, the US corporate media collectively labeled Bin Laden and al qaeda as enemies of the state, and threatened any nation who harbored or aided terrorists in any way.

However, other than relentless rhetoric, the US never provided proof that Al qaeda was responsible for the attacks. The taleban requested the US provide evidence before turning over Bin Laden. The US again never provided such evidence. According to the London Guardian:

Mullah Abdul Salam Zaeff, the Afghan ambassador to Pakistan, said: "We are prepared to try him, if America provides solid evidence of Osama bin Laden's involvement in attacks in New York and Washington."

Asked whether the Taliban would allow a trial of Bin Laden in another country, he said: "We are willing to talk about that, but the first is that we must be given the evidence."

The Afghan Islamic Press (AIP) quoted Mullah Zaeff as saying: "If America is not satisfied with our trial of Osama, we are also ready to find another Islamic way of trying him."

AIP said Mullah Zaeef had again offered talks to the United States saying: "War is nothing but pain and death, blood does not wash blood, negotiations are a good path and we can discuss all issues including Osama."

Washington has said there is nothing to discuss.

In the years since 9/11, it seems that narrative has changed. Where al qaeda was once perceived as allies by the west (through funding and training), then as enemies (the war on terror), now al quaeda is both friend AND foe.

The US, Israel, NATO, and the west have been using al qaeda as their proxy army.

A group known as the people’s Mujahadeen of Iran (or MEK) has long been designated as a terrorist organization by the US, yet this group receives funding and training by Israel’s secret service and has been identified as the group responsible for the assassinations of Iranian nuclear scientists according to NBC News:

“The relation is very intricate and close,” said Mohammad Javad Larijani, a senior aide to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s supreme leader, speaking of the MEK and Israel.  “They (Israelis) are paying … the Mujahedin. Some of their (MEK) agents … (are) providing Israel with information.  And they recruit and also manage logistical support”

Moreover, he said, the Mossad, the Israeli secret service, is training MEK members in Israel on the use of motorcycles and small bombs.  In one case, he said, Mossad agents built a replica of the home of an Iranian nuclear scientist so that the assassins could familiarize themselves with the layout prior to the attack

Pulitzer prize winning journalist Seymour Hersh has also documented the ties between the MEK and the US:

The C.I.A. and Special Operations communities also have long-standing ties to two other dissident groups in Iran:

the Mujahideen-e-Khalq, known in the West as the M.E.K., and a Kurdish separatist group, the Party for a Free Life in Kurdistan, or PJAK.

The M.E.K. has been on the State Department’s terrorist list for more than a decade, yet in recent years the group has received arms and intelligence, directly or indirectly, from the United States.

As the corporate media repeats the same talking point that Iran and Al Quaeda have been and continue to work together, the facts on the ground tell a different story. According to an article in The Atlantic, the recently assassinated American citizen leader of al quaeda, Anwar al-Awlaki (who was #3 on the FBI’s most wanted list after 9/11 but was an invited guest of the Pentagon) denounced the regime in Iran and placed them in the same category as the US:

It's impossible to say for sure what happens inside the shadowy security apparatuses of secretive Middle East regimes, particularly Iran's. But a recent statement from al-Qaeda makes present or future collaboration between the terrorist group and Iran appear significantly less likely. In a video posted to jihadi forums on Monday, Anwar al-Awlaki, an ideological leader of al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) and influential figure to allied jihadist groups worldwide, denounced Iran. He urged his followers to place the Iranian regime in the same category as traditional al-Qaeda target, "the American occupation."

Meanwhile, Al qaeda was been used by NATO not only to take out Qaddafi in Libya, but also to foment a rebellion in Syria.

There are too many points to mention without this becoming a book, so instead I will simply provide headlines and links:

Connections Between Al Qaeda And Libyan Rebels Run Deep:

Flying proudly over the birthplace of Libya's revolution, the flag of Al Qaeda Al Qaeda Plants Its Flag in Libya

Libya’s new rulers offer weapons to Syrian rebels (an al qaeda associated group):

Libyan rebel commander admits his fighters have al-Qaeda links:

If it isn’t clear by now that the story we’ve been told in America of the deadly group Al Qaeda who is hellbent on destroying our way life is dubious at best, then it never will be.

The truth is the corporate media, working in cohoots with the government, uses Al Qaeda as a chess piece that they move from country to country to sell the uninformed American people (who believe that by watching FoxNews, MSNBC, or CNN that they ARE informed) on war with whatever nation that opposes US foreign policy, which in of itself is the agenda of the global banking crime cartel known by some as the New World Order.

Failure to understand this essential fact will result in the continuing destruction of our Republic and erosion of our civil liberties.

- Wake up, America. Its not too late, but its getting there....
