Här är skurkarna som vill kontrollera Internet

*CISPA Action Center*

Right now, corporations like Microsoft and Facebook are pushing for a powerful new law that would allow the US to spy on almost everything we do online. But if enough of us speak out, we can demand that the corporations withdraw their support and stop the cyber-spying.

SOPA, the Stop Online Piracy Act, is a bill going through Congress that would put America behind its own Chinese firewall.

Website Blocking

With this bill, government can order Internet service providers to block websites for infringing links posted by any users.  Websites like Reddit, Tumblr, and even Youtube, are fair targets to be shutdown.

Risk of Jail for Ordinary Users

It becomes a felony with a potential 5 year sentence to stream a copyrighted work that would cost more than $2,500 to license, even if you are a totally noncommercial user, e.g. singing a pop song on Facebook.

Chaos for the Internet

Thousands of sites that are legal under the DMCA would face new legal threats. People trying to keep the internet more secure wouldn’t be able to rely on the integrity of the DNS system.

INTRESSEN SOM STÖDER

INTERNET-CENSUREN (USA ):

This bill would establish a system for taking down websites that the Justice Department determines to be dedicated to copyright infringment.

The DoJ or the copyright owner would be able to commence a legal action against any site they deem to have "only limited purpose or use other than infringement," and the DoJ would be allowed to demand that search engines, social networking sites and domain name services block access to the targeted site.

It would also make unauthorized web streaming of copyrighted content a felony with a possible penalty up to five years in prison. This bill combines two separate Senate bills -- S.968 and S.978-- into one big House bill.

OpenCongress bill summaries are written by OpenCongress editors and are entirely independent of Congress and the federal government. For the summary provided by Congress itself, via the Congressional Research Service, see the "Official Summary" below.

Save the Internet from the US

Take action now
*

Right now, the US is poised to pass a new law that would permit US agents to spy on almost everything we do online. But we can stop them if we act now.

This week, companies that we trust with our personal information, like Microsoft and Facebook, are pushing members of Congress to vote for a bill that would allow corporations to share anything that we do online with US government agencies -- nullifying privacy guarantees for almost everyone around the world, no matter where we live and surf online.

If enough of us speak out, we can stop companies that profit from our business from supporting cyber-spying. Send a message now and forward to everyone you know:

The Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act (CISPA) would allow companies doing business in the US to collect exact records of all of our online activities and hand it over to the US government, without ever notifying us that we are being watched. No warrant, no legal cause and no due process required. To make matters worse, the bill provides the government and corporations with blanket immunity to protect them from being sued for violation of privacy and other illegal actions.

The bill’s supporters claim that consumer information will be protected, but the reality is that huge loopholes would make everything we do online fair game -- and nowadays, from banking to shopping, our private information is all stored on the Internet. CISPA, used in tandem with laws recently passed in the US claiming the power to detain any person in the world without due process, could mean that thousands of innocent people are indefinitely imprisoned on the basis of online “suspicious” activity.

CISPA is being moved forward in Congress and will be voted upon in days. Let’s raise a massive outcry to stop corporations from giving the US a blank check to monitor our every move. Take action and send to friends and family:

http://www.avaaz.org/en/stop_cispa_global_action_center_lightbox_b/?vl

This year, we helped stop SOPA, PIPA and ACTA -- all dire threats to the Internet. Now, let’s block CISPA and end the US government attack on our Internet.

WIth hope and determination,

Dalia, Allison, Emma, Ricken, Rewan, Andrew, Wen-Hua, and the rest of the Avaaz team
