Rörelsen Occupy Wall Street, som protesterar mot "storbolagens girighet", får hundratals efterföljare världen över. Nu hyllas rörelsen även av årets fredspristagare.



Fredspristagare: "Ha ett tydligt mål"
Demonstranterna fick stöd från den nyblivna fredspristagaren och liberianska medborgarrättskämpen Leymah Gbowee, när hon talade i New York sent i går.

Gbowee uttryckte beundran för de Wall Street-kritiska protesterna som sprider sig över USA som hon beskrev som "ett tecken på att människor inte längre kommer att bara sitta ner och ta emot", skrev New York Times.

• Rörelsen Occupy Wall Street, som påstår sig hämta inspiration från den så kallade arabiska våren, startades av den kanadensiska gruppen Adbuster.

• Aktivisterna säger sig demonstrera mot bland annat sociala och ekonomiska orättvisor, "storbolagens girighet" och lobbyisters inflytande på amerikansk politik.

• Protesterna har spridits till finanskvarteren i bland annat Washington, Los Angeles, Boston, Chicago, Miami och Denver och till många andra länder. I nuläget planeras evenemang i närmare 1.000 städer.

• Rörelsen uppges sakna ledare och har inte heller någon tydlig agenda. Den jämförs ibland med den konservativa Tea Party-rörelsen - fast på den motsatta sidan av den politiska skalan.

• Rörelsen har också gett ut en tidning, Occupied Wall Street Journal. De Wall Street-kritiska protesterna sprider sig som en löpeld över USA och resten av världen.

_{I nuläget planeras evenemang i 991 städer världen över,} enligt den inofficiella sajten Occupy togethers räkning vid 16-tiden på lördagen. Även i Sverige planeras en demonstration. Den ska ske på Sergels torg i Stockholm lördagen den 15 oktober.

Thousands of Americans have non-violently occupied Wall St -- an epicentre of global financial power and corruption. They are the latest ray of light in a new movement for social justice that is spreading like wildfire from Madrid to Jerusalem to 146 other cities and counting, but they need our help to succeed.

As working families pay the bill for a financial crisis caused by corrupt elites, the protesters are calling for real democracy, social justice and anti-corruption. But they are under severe pressure from authorities, and some media are dismissing them as fringe groups.
